The Women’s Affairs Unit at the College of Engineering, University of Baghdad, organized an awareness seminar titled “Women and Their Role in Environmental Protection and Achieving Sustainable Development” on Wednesday, 5 November 2025. The seminar was presented by Assistant Lecturer Enas Abdul Zaid Kadhim from the Department of Energy Engineering.

The seminar aimed to highlight the importance of women’s participation in environmental protection and sustainable development by enhancing their awareness of preserving natural resources, encouraging them to adopt environmentally responsible behaviors within the family and community, and supporting their involvement in decision-making and policy development that contribute to balanced development. The seminar also discussed the role of women in supporting eco-friendly economic initiatives such as home gardening and recycling, emphasizing the need to empower women through programs and legislation that foster their active contribution to building a sustainable society for future generations.

The seminar concluded with several recommendations, including strengthening the role of women in spreading environmental awareness within communities and schools, enabling them to participate in environmental and sustainable development decision-making positions, and supporting small environmental projects led by women. It also called for organizing training and awareness programs on natural resource management, energy and water conservation, activating the role of educational institutions in integrating sustainability concepts into curricula, fostering partnerships between government entities and civil society organizations, and encouraging the media to highlight outstanding female models in environmental work.

This seminar comes as part of the College of Engineering’s commitment at the University of Baghdad to empowering women and enhancing their active role in environmental protection and sustainable development, contributing to building a balanced society and a better future for the coming generations.
